Early-morning Coversations with Mom

One of my pet peeves (and feel utterly selfish that it is a peeve at all) is when I'm online for the first time of the day, and someone decides to station himself or herself in the same room and talk to me. Not an actual conversation, but occasional snippets, enough to disrupt any train of thought I had going on regarding my Online Experience.

Mom: "I like that commercial." (The t.v. wasn't on.)
me: "Uh-huh..."
Mom: "The one where the little boy is lying on his dad's stomach."
me: "Yeah; 'gorp, gorp.'"
Mom: "'Gorp, gorp.'" slight laugh, long pause.
I get back to checking my e-mail.
Mom: "Laura Bush always looks so pretty."

Today I have to go shopping for a wedding present for the wedding I'm attending this afternoon. I checked out their wedding registries at various stores, and it is MIND-BOGGLING how much stuff is checked-off their wishlists. The first thing I thought of when I noticed that, and remembered that I had spend lots of money on a bridal shower gift, too, was, I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND why people get married 3, 4, 5 times. ALL THOSE GIFTS! It's addicting.

That's the only downside to eloping. That's the conclusion I've come to, anyway. Not so many gifts. ;-) When Jennee and I first moved in, we wanted to throw ourselves some sort of shower so people could give us the essentials. Let me tell you, it would've minimized the expenses a great deal! ;-)

I know! And I already feel gypped enough -- I didn't have a high school graduation party, or an "I'm done with my first college" party, or a real birthday celebration (for a long time)! ;) I guess I'll have to look forward to graduating from college (I'd better have a party then!!), bridal shower, wedding, and, oh my gosh!! Baby showers! Whoa! The fun never ends (well, as long as I keep having kids. heh.)!

Yeah, but after a few kids, the baby showers end.

I'll throw you some showers!

it's our consumer-driven materialistic society.

Must... have... more... stuff!

Why do the baby showers end after a few? The last kid is just as special as the first! :P
